Should I Be Taking Supplements to Support My Alcohol-Free Lifestyle?

I get asked this question all the time...

"Should I be taking supplements to support my alcohol-free lifestyle?"

As a doctor of nutrition who is trained in using supplements very strategically to support different health goals, I am a big proponent of using supplements.

But here's the catch.

The supplement world can be extremely confusing and overwhelming. There's thousands of products on the market. And it seems like every wellness influencer is promoting a new, shiny probiotic, PMS pill, or herb blend that helps zap stress.

I know you may have experienced the overwhelm and fatigue of supplement marketing. Many of my clients come to me with a long list of supplements they are taking, which they're not even sure why they're using them or if they're doing anything.

And supplements aren't to be taken lightly. While they are available over the counter, this doesn't mean they're safe for all. For example, Ashwagandha, an herb found in many products and even functional beverages, can have contraindications with certain health conditions. This is only one of the many examples of how supplements can sometimes be dangerous without the right oversight.

In my one-on-one sessions with clients, we completely customize their supplement approach so that its exactly tailored to their needs.

But after recognizing the greater need to help guide those on their alcohol-free journey, I launched the first-ever supplement packs exclusively designed for the sober and sober-curious. Throughout this post, I'll share more about these unique supplements and help you choose the pack thats right for you!

Here's why supplements can be a game-changing tool for your alcohol-free lifestyle:

Replenish Vitamins & Minerals:

One of the challenges with long-term alcohol use is the effects it has on vitamin and mineral levels. Alcohol use depletes most of our important nutrients, including B vitamins, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, magnesium and more. These nutrients are important for energy production, a healthy mood, a strong immune system and even for focus and productivity. Replenishing these nutrients is especially important within the first few months of alcohol cessation.

Support healing the gut and rebalancing hormones:

Long-term alcohol use has disadvantages on the entire body, but can be extremely troublesome on the gut microbiome. You've probably heard by now how important gut health is for our entire body's health, including mood, energy, skin, hormone balance, and more. As part of your alcohol healing journey, its important to consider supporting the gut and rebalancing hormones.

Management of Cravings for Alcohol and Sugar

Certain supplements can help balance blood sugar and eliminate cravings for both sugar and alcohol. I recommend these supplements to many of my clients who are in early sobriety. They can be used as needed during a time of craving to stop a craving in its tracks.

Improve mood and lower anxiety:

Supplements and herbs can be extremely effective in lowering anxiety and high stress, as well as supporting a happy and healthy mood. Some supplements to consider for mood support include magnesium, vitamin D, B-vitamins, and amino acids.
